I have an offer to study at Deakin College. Should I accept the offer now? What happens if I change my mind?

You can accept your offer now and if you change your mind closer to the start of trimester, you can withdraw and receive a refund. View our Refund Policy (PDF).

Where can I find more information about Deakin College?

We have plenty of information on our website. You can also contact us. We are online 9am-5pm (Melbourne time) Monday to Friday. Our on-campus reception desks are also open 10am – 4pm on weekdays.  If you are an international student, you can also contact one of our overseas representatives.

Will Deakin College organise orientation sessions?

Yes, you will be invited to Orientation via email, where you will be able to attend and participate in information sessions and social events. For those studying online, there will also be some online events.

I've booked on-campus student accommodation via the College. If I defer my offer, can defer my accommodation too?

Yes, however you would need to respond to the accommodation offer you received from Student Residences and request to defer your start date.

Where do I find my student ID?

Please refer to your letter of offer. You will find your ID in the top right-hand corner: either 7
numbers starting with a 5(eg. 500—-) or an alphabetical and numerical combination (eg.
TOBRET1201).

Is there a fee reduction for online study?

No, tuition fees are the same for on-campus and online study.

How many classes do I have per week?

This depends on whether you are studying on campus or online, and whether you are studying full-time or part-time.

A full-time study load at Deakin College is a minimum of three units and a maximum of four units each trimester (75%-100% study load). International students must study full-time.

Domestic students can choose to study part-time by enrolling in just one or two units each trimester (25%-50% study load). If you are seeking Centrelink assistance, you must study full-time.

If you are a Foundation student, you must enrol in four units (100% study load) each trimester.

You will have 4 hours of classes per week, per unit.

If you are a domestic student and are studying online, all materials, including videos, activities, readings, lecture and tutorial content will be available on Moodle to read, watch and complete in your own time. In addition, each unit will offer a 1-2 hour live online session per week for online students only.

Can I study online?

We offer both online and on-campus study for domestic students in Diplomas of Business, Commerce, Communication, Design, Engineering, Health Sciences and IT. We offer on-campus classes only for our Diplomas of Film, TV and Animation,  and Science.

If you are an international student, you must study on campus.

Enrolment FAQs

Can I study part-time? How many modules should I enrol in?

We understand that some students may prefer to study part-time.

A full-time study load at Deakin College is a minimum of 3 units (75%) or a maximum of 4 units (100%) each trimester.

Domestic students can enrol in between one unit (25%) and four units (100%) each trimester.

We recommend that international students enrol in 3 units (75%) or 4 units (100%) in order to meet progression requirements to Deakin University, as outlined in your offer letter. If you are a Foundation student, you must enrol in 4 modules (100%) each trimester.

Which modules do I choose?

Please refer to your Course Outline. Look for the Bachelor course that you intend to study and follow the recommended modules that are shown.

How do I enrol?

Once you have accepted your offer to study with us, we will send you instructions about how to enrol online in your course.

I am trying to enrol but my enrolment is blocked

Your enrolment may be blocked for a number of reasons:

  • You may not have accepted your offer – complete section 2, 3 & 4 of your offer letter
  • You may not have paid your fees or sorted out your FEE-HELP
  • You may not have submitted your release letter from your previous college or any other documents requested by Admissions
  • You may not have completed your interview, as detailed in your offer letter
  • If you are a sponsored student, you may not have submitted your financial guarantee
  • Contact us by using the ‘help chat’ function in the Student Portal if you experience any issues enrolling during the enrolment period.

There is a clash in the classes that I want to enrol in. What do I do?

Choose another class that does not have any clashes. If the class that you have chosen is full, there is no choice but to choose another class/time-slot.

How can I confirm my online enrolment has been successfully completed?

Check the Student Portal to see if you have successfully enrolled or email the Academic Services team via email: dcoll-acadserv@deakin.edu.au with your full name and student ID.

Who do I contact if I have any IT issue during my enrolment?

For Student Portal or Moodle login problems, please complete this form to request a reset of your Student Portal password. For any other IT issues, please email dcoll-ithelp@deakin.edu.au.

Online learning FAQs

What is online learning?

Online learning refers to learning delivered on a computer via the internet and therefore does not require students to be physically present at a school, college or university in order to attain an education. Classes, assessments, and exams are conducted online.

Some of our diplomas require some on-campus visits, even if you are studying online. This is will made clear in your enrolment session.

Can I study online?

We offer both online and on-campus study for domestic students in Diplomas of Business, Commerce, Communication, Engineering, Health Sciences and IT. We offer on-campus classes only for our Diplomas of Design, Film, Television and Animation, and Science.

If you are an international student, you must study on campus.

Online learning is all new to me and I am not sure if I can cope

It is important to know that Deakin College is offering more than online lectures and tutorials – we provide online workshops and individual study support through learning mentors and learning advisors. The staff at Deakin College encourage you to ask questions and are ready to provide support and guidance as needed.

What happens if I don't like online classes after a few weeks. Can I withdraw?

Yes, you are able to withdraw without academic penalty before census date (end of Week 4 of the trimester). You will receive a refund in line with our Refund policy (PDF).
