Apply for your student visa
Start the process as soon as you receive your offer letter
You can’t study in Australia unless you have a student visa. As soon as you obtain your Letter of Offer, you should start this process. Your agent will be able to assist you.
You will most likely need to apply for the Student Visa (Subclass 500).
This visa allows you to:
- Study a registered full-time course in Australia
- Bring eligible family members
- Stay in Australia 1 to 2 months after your studies are complete
- Work 48 hours per fortnight during the trimester and full-time during holidays
Important documents required for your application
- A copy of your Offer Letter
- A copy of your eCoE
- Evidence that you have paid OSHC
- Passport
- Passport photos
- Medical Clearance
After you have completed your application you may also be required to attend an interview, provide further information, biometric information or police certificates.
Travelling on a new passport issued after you applied for your visa
If you’re travelling into or out of Australia on a student visa and have a new passport, you should inform the Department of Home Affairs. If the Department does not have your new passport details, you risk delays, missing flights and having your overall student journey impacted.
Please notify the Department of Home Affairs if you receive a new passport so it can be linked to your current visa or application. You can do this easily by updating your passport details in your ImmiAccount. Most updates are done instantly. Learn more at You have a new passport (homeaffairs.gov.au).
